I Can’t Sleep At Night?

The following is a small piece of information for anyone who feels tired regularly but cant sleep during the night. For more detailed information about this topic you may want to check out some of our more detailed pages about common sleeping problems.

Why Can’t I Sleep Anymore?

A common question asked by many people who suffer from sleep deprivation or any other kind of similar sleep loss…

Sleeping at night can be a hard task to achieve nowadays since most things we do goes against our biological sleep clock and prevent us from getting a good night’s rest. Friends, technology, family, needs, wants, feelings, stress, and noise are just a few things that can keep you tossing and turning all night instead of dreaming about sheep.

Most people will have trouble sleeping and will continue to do so simply because they have simply forgotten how to sleep. When we were babies we slept so much better, even think back to when you were a child. You probably got a good 8 hours sleep almost every night, right? So why is it that when we become adults we suddenly have trouble sleeping and seem to lose the ability to turn off for extended hours at a time?

The reason is because we lack the discipline to do so. We stay up all night past our bedtimes. We eat before bed. We stay inside all day and watch TV. We play video games before bed, and a personal favorite I see a lot is we drink way to more caffeinated beverages. Because of most of these factors and other similar reasons our sleep clock is way out of whack and our bodies do not know how to fall asleep.

The only other exception is if you have a medical reason that is preventing you from sleeping.

Narcolepsy and sleep apnea are serious medical issues and can stop you from sleeping and you are going to need medical attention to attend towards them. The funny thing though is that many people believe that something is wrong with them but all you really need to do is make a few lifestyle changes and you will see results instantly.

If nothing happens then you may want to consult a doctor or sleep clinic right away!

I Can’t Sleep What Do I Do?

Well the first thing that you can do is make sure that you are not giving your body an excuse to lack energy and be lazy. The body works in a weird way as it will adapt to what you put it through. If you sit at home on the couch watching TV all day then your body is not going to need a lot of energy therefore it does not simply have it.

Having Trouble Getting A Good Nights Rest?

If you play sports and exercise everyday then your body is going to need lots of energy in order to survive therefore it produces massive amounts of it. This concept works in a way that most people do not realize. The average person would assume that being tired all the time means the body needs rest, but giving the body rest all the time is going to make it tired as well.

This is why the first thing that you need to do is question how much physical activity you are doing during the day. Lots of walking, running, and moving will increase your energy levels, get your temperature rising and help you sleep better at night. The way the bodies temperature works is a whole different topic and would take its own post to explain it but for now all you need to know is that the higher your temperature the better.

Notice how much more awake and aware you feel once your blood and heart gets pumping. We feel the most awake when our body temperatures are high. For example: when you get out of the shower in the morning.

Get Sunlight and Fresh Air

The second thing you need to be aware of is that the sunlight controls your inner biological clock and tells your body when to be awake and when to be asleep. When you are taking sunlight in your body is being told to be awake and full of energy. When you sit inside your body is being told to relax and get ready for sleep. It is definitely not a good thing in the middle of the afternoon.

This is why working nightshifts or graveyards are very hard to do. Trust me I know, I’ve lived that kind of lifestyle for a year and its tough but it’s very much doable, you just got to know how your body works that’s all.

If you still can’t sleep at night, after reading some of that and trying it out for let’s say a week, you should consider digging deeper into the problem. You are going to need to do some more research and check out things such as cardiac rhythms, and what factors keep you awake and what factors put you to sleep.

Go To Bed at the Same Time Every Night

A good solution for anyone who can’t sleep through the night would be to try going to bed at the same time every night. Remember when I mentioned that we lack discipline? Well this is where you are going to have to kick yourself and start going to bed early.

A good place to begin would be to wake up around sunrise and go to sleep shortly after the sun sets. The time does not have to be exact every night but try to keep it at least within an hour.

There are many reasons as to why you might not be able to sleep at night but trying out some of our methods and tips will surely give you some help. Sleep is important and feeling tired all the time sucks so you want to live your life and get the best sleep you can starting today.
