Anxiety and Sleep Problems

The following post is going to discuss some issues that many of my readers are having with anxiety and sleep deprivation. Read on if this interests you.

Sleep anxiety is one of the greatest problems that people who suffer from sleep loss can experience. Anxiety in generally can lead to many problems concerning other activities and actions but when it comes to sleep it can really start to make life miserable for us.

The only good thing about sleeping anxiety is the fact that the problem is not real. In fact the only thing that is stopping you from getting a good nights rest is yourself. It sounds kind of weird when I say it like that but thats basically what anxiety is, worrying to much about something until the point where it causes more harm then it does good.

Have you ever laid in bed at night and had a big day ahead of you? Lets say you had an exam or you were going on a vacation and you knew that you needed to get a good nights rest so you went to bed early. You got everything ready the night before and did your best to get a good nights rest except you go to lay in bed at night only to find you can’t fall alseep. This is what happens to most people who have sleep anxiety except it happens to them every night.

Checking The Clock Will Keep You Up All Night

Many people wonder how sleep anxiety can just come out of no where and control your life, but it is usually linked to chronic sleep loss and sleep deprivation. This is why we encourage anyone who is having problems resting to take a look at some sleeping tips and work on strengthening their sleep system. If the question is “can lack of sleep cause anxiety?” The answer is yes.

It’s kind of funny how our minds work since it can be a very great thing but at the same time be our worst enemy. If you think you might be suffering from sleep anxiety then you are going to have to learn to control your emotions and thoughts and learn how to relax when you go to sleep.

Sleep Apnea and Anxiety

Sleep anxiety problems can also be commonly found in sleeping disorders and this is probably where they will most likely form. When most people who get tired or put their body through sleep deprivation, the body fights back by trying to get more sleep and being more tired. For someone suffering a sleeping disorder this just makes the problem worse. You pretty much turn into a zombie who suffers from being tired all the time.

Since sleeping disorders such as insomnia, sleep apnea, and narcolepsy can really put pressure on your sleep system they can easily cause anyone to worry about their sleep, which in return will most likely produce anxiety overtime.

Sleep Anxiety Treatments

As we mentioned earlier, your best bet is trying to learn how to relax your mind. I find that a lot of sleep problems are linked with people who suffer from depression. Try going outside more, getting more sunlight since it produces hormones that increase our mood, and it also controls or cardiac rhythm.

See your family and try to just get out of the house in general. Things you do not want to be doing are laying in bed all day, watching TV, and being on the computer. We know it can be hard to not do all this when it feels like the world is on your shoulders but you want a better life for yourself don’t you?

It almost contradicts this post to say this but your best treatment for sleep anxiety is to go to a sleep doctor or sleep clinic and get a sleep study done on you instead of reading sleeping tips online. Reading a page will only get you so far, you need to start implementing these tactics and seeing some professional medical help.

How To Spot Sleep Anxiety or Sleeping Disorder Symptoms

If you think you might have sleep anxiety then you need to spot these sleeping disorder symptoms.

1. Constant worrying about getting a good nights rest is a good indication that you have some kind of sleep anxiety even if it is just minor. There is a difference between wanting to get a good nights sleep and worrying about it all the time.

2. Not being able to sleep at night could be an indication of sleep anxiety but it is definitely a sign of some sleeping disorder forming.

3. If you can’t sleep for extended periods of time or you still feel tired after doing so then you might have sleep apnea, or narcolepsy.

If you know you have sleep anxiety then you are going to want to seek treatment and medical attention right away. Everyone can be cured of sleep anxiety you just have to change your way of thinking which is ultimately the one problem that is causing it.

  1. Thanks for the excellent post, I loved reading it!

  2. Sasha London says:

A personal, realistic and non-threatening approach to dealing with sleep deprivation, Restful Insomnia is beneficial for every reader–not just those who suffer from the condition. Sondra Kornblatt reveals her own troubles with insomnia and accounts her journey from frustrating sleepless nights to finally being being able to mimic the benefits of sleep through techniques such as Night Yoga and Wisdom Writing. Sondra also mentions some examples of clients whom she coached with her revolutionary program and how her techniques worked for them.

But besides all the sleep talk, Restful Insomnia is just darn entertaining. Sondra’s conversational, and at times, comical tone is unexpected for a non-fiction book that tackles such a troubling subject–but it’s refreshing and it works. I would highly recommend this book for anyone looking for an alternative solution to this important problem that affects so many.
